Since its inception in 2013, Hanjie Art Center has served the Greater Houston community for 11 years. It is the brainchild of Haicun Weng, who brought nearly 20 years of university-level art education experience to the founding of Hanjie. His vision was to realize a philosophy that balances the teaching of traditional artistic skills with the encouragement of innovative experimentation. The Center is dedicated to challenging students to discover, develop, and elevate their innate creativity.
Born in Fujian Province in southern China, Haicun Weng earned his Bachelor of Arts from the Fujian Normal University Academy of Fine Arts in 1994. Upon graduation, he was invited to join the faculty in recognition of his extraordinary artistic talent and academic excellence. He taught there for the following 18 years, earning his Master of Arts in 2008.
After settling in the United States in 2012, Mr. Weng founded Hanjie Art Center, focusing on art education for the younger generation and community art projects. Between 2017 and 2023, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers honored him with the National Outstanding Educator Award in recognition of his dedication and impact.
